How to use ChatGPT on iPhone (2026): Siri extension or the app

Two easy ways to get ChatGPT on your iPhone, step by step.

Option 1: through Siri (Apple Intelligence iPhones)

Needs an iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max or any iPhone 16 model or later on iOS 27, in a region where ChatGPT is available. You must be 13+ (or your country's minimum age).

1. Open Settings and tap Siri.
2. Tap ChatGPT, then Set Up, and follow the steps. Using Siri AI (beta)? Tap Set Up Extensions → ChatGPT, then turn on Use Extension.
3. Choose whether to sign in to a ChatGPT account. You don't have to, but signing in saves requests to your ChatGPT history.
4. Ask Siri something, and it can hand the question to ChatGPT. You're asked before anything is shared. With Siri AI, you need to ask ChatGPT explicitly before a prompt, photo or file is sent.

Privacy, per Apple: your IP address is hidden from OpenAI. Without an account, OpenAI must not store your requests or use them to train its models. If you sign in, your ChatGPT account settings apply.

To turn it off: Settings → Siri → ChatGPT → turn off Use ChatGPT (with Siri AI: Extensions → ChatGPT → turn off Use Extension).

Option 2: the ChatGPT app (any recent iPhone)

1. Install ChatGPT by OpenAI from the App Store. Check the developer name is OpenAI.
2. Sign up or log in. The free plan gives unlimited everyday text chats with GPT-6.
3. Type, or tap the voice button to talk (voice chats are limited on free).

Which should I use?
